Lucid Motors has partnered with coatings innovator PPG to create a striking palette of exterior finishes for its luxury EV lineup—powered by PPG’s Andaro® pigment nanodispersion technology. This advanced pigment system delivers deeper color intensity (chroma), enhanced clarity, and transparency, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in automotive color.
“Nanodispersion” refers to ultra-fine pigment particles, often on the nanometer scale, that are evenly dispersed in a liquid medium. The pigments create jewel-like finishes with high chroma and richness, which are ideal for premium and concept vehicles.
The collaboration led to exclusive finishes for the Lucid Air sedan and Lucid Gravity SUV, including Zenith Red, a rich garnet hue unique to Lucid. Achieved through a highly concentrated pigment blend in both the basecoat and tinted clearcoat, Zenith Red offers dramatic depth and vibrancy.
“Color plays a vital role in defining a luxury EV brand,” said Nicola Danks, Lucid Motors’ CMF Design Director. “Our shared vision with PPG allowed us to explore new pigments, tri-coats, and color travel effects inspired by space, energy, and time.”
PPG’s Mallory Prylinski added that Andaro technology improves color purity and layering effects—reducing haziness, increasing flip-flop in metallics, and delivering cleaner, more dynamic finishes.
Other standout colors include:
- Stellar White – a bright tri-coat with silky mica
- Cosmos Silver & Quantum Grey – fine metallics with a smooth, soft sheen
- Lunar Titanium – warm-toned metallic with yellow pearl
- Aurora Green – rainbow-like effects using thin-film flakes
- Supernova Bronze – a bold, chrome-finish bronze with vacuum metallized pigments
From crisp whites to shifting metallics, the Lucid–PPG collaboration proves that color is more than surface deep—it’s a defining element of EV identity.
