Vehicle maintenance and repair costs continue to climb, putting added pressure on drivers and collision repair businesses alike. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, consumer prices for motor vehicle maintenance and repair increased 5.8% over the 12 months ending in September 2026, up from 5.2% in August.
For collision repair shops, the numbers are especially notable. Motor vehicle body work prices rose 6.0% year over year, while posted collision body labor rates reached an average of $85.48 per hour in August — a 6.8% increase compared with the previous year.
Maintenance and servicing costs also rose 7.8% over the year, reflecting continued increases across the automotive service industry.
